MRLS October 26 Joe Lawrence (Holy Cross)

The Redemption of Nature: Why Poetry rather than Science Must Lead on the Environment

October 26, 2009 *Social Science 1021* 12:30

Joseph Lawrence was educated at the University of Washington, Columbia University, and Tübingen University, where Schelling, Hegel, and Hölderlin passed their years as students and where Hölderlin spent the last years of his life. Most of his publications have been on the philosopher Schelling (he is the author of Schellings Philosophie des ewigen Anfangs [of the eternal beginnings, origins), though he has also made frequent forays into ancient philosophy and the wisdom traditions of the East. Professor Lawrence has forthcoming books on Socrates, which is titled Becoming Socrates that will be published in the Comparative and Continental Philosophy Book Series with Equinox Publishing in London, and on Religion and Evil. His next book-length project will be a work on philosophical religion.

We are still accepting donations for north Georgia flood victims. Bottled waters and baked goods will be available in the lobby. All funds help flood victims.
